Strategic Design. Quality Installation. Results That Last.

Your landscaping should frame your home beautifully, create spaces that work as hard as they look, and do it all without constant fussing. That requires real design thinking, not just random plants thrown in the ground. At Maedgen’s, we understand Missouri’s soil and climate, we know what thrives here, and we design specifically toward what your property needs to succeed.

Our Landscaping Philosophy

Too many landscaping companies start with plants and hope it works. We start with vision. We understand what you want your property to accomplish, then we design specifically toward that outcome.

This is The Maedgen Way: Strategic design + quality installation + plant selections that actually thrive in Missouri’s climate = a landscape that improves your property for decades.

The Design Process

Good design changes everything. A thoughtfully designed landscape looks intentional, sophisticated, and valuable. Poor design looks haphazard and expensive while failing to achieve anything.

Phase 1: Understanding Your Vision

We meet at your property and listen. What are you hoping to accomplish? Curb appeal? Privacy screening? A gathering space? A low-maintenance landscape? We’re understanding what matters to you, not pushing what we want to install.

We evaluate sun/shade patterns, soil conditions, drainage, existing plants worth keeping, views to highlight or screen, problem areas, and your home’s architecture.

Phase 2: Design Development

We create a detailed landscape plan showing plant selections, hardscape elements, grading and drainage solutions, focal points, visual flow, and color combinations for seasonal interest.

We specify quality levels (this matters tremendously) and show you realistic renderings of what the finished landscape will actually look like.

Phase 3: Refining & Finalizing

Once you see the design, we refine based on your feedback. Size adjustments, plant changes, hardscape modifications. Whatever gets us to a plan you’re truly excited about.

For installation, we create detailed specs that our crews follow exactly. This ensures quality and consistency throughout the project.

What We Design & Install

Our landscaping services cover three categories. Select a tab to see what’s included.

Residential Plantings

  • Foundation Plantings. Shrubs and perennials that frame your home, enhance its architecture, and provide year-round structure.
  • Accent & Specimen Plants. Focal point plantings like ornamental trees, statement shrubs, and unique plants that draw the eye and add sophistication.
  • Perennial Gardens. Designed gardens with layered plantings for color, texture, and seasonal interest that look better as they mature.
  • Shade Plantings. Special selections for areas under large trees where typical plants struggle. We choose varieties that thrive in low light.

Hardscape Elements

  • Patios & Gathering Spaces. Outdoor spaces designed for function and beauty using pavers, stone, or decorative concrete.
  • Pathways & Edging. Defined walkways with quality edging that separates plantings and creates clear, intentional spaces.
  • Walls & Raised Beds. Retaining walls for erosion control, raised beds for visual interest and accessibility, and decorative walls for screening.
  • Water Features. Ponds, fountains, or streams that add movement and sound while creating natural focal points.

Specialty Installations

  • Lawn Replacement. Removal and site preparation when redesigning lawn areas with plantings or hardscape.
  • Drainage Solutions. Grading, underground drainage, or strategic plant selection to address wet areas and standing water.
  • Screening & Privacy. Strategic plantings or structures that block unwanted views while maintaining aesthetics and airflow.
  • Xeriscaping Options. Drought-tolerant plants suited to Missouri’s dry periods for low-water, low-maintenance landscapes.

Plant Selection for Missouri

This matters more than people think. You can plant anything in Missouri, but most things you plant will either struggle or require constant intervention. We select plants that thrive here naturally.

Trees

Red oaks, white oaks, sugar maples, red maples, Japanese maples, redbud, dogwood, crabapples, and serviceberry. Each chosen for specific roles on your property.

Shrubs

Viburnum, spirea, hydrangea, boxwood, butterfly bush, lilac, arborvitae, junipers, and hollies. Plants chosen for spring flowers, summer color, fall foliage, or winter structure.

Perennials

Coneflowers, black-eyed Susans, daylilies, hostas, and ferns. We select varieties that bloom at different times so your gardens have continuous color throughout the seasons.

Native Options

When appropriate, we use native perennials and plants that thrive with minimal care once established. Responsible landscaping that supports local wildlife.

Quality Installation Matters

A great design means nothing if installation is poor. That’s why we handle installation ourselves.

  • Proper Preparation – Soil amendment, drainage solutions, and bed prep done right so plants get the foundation they need
  • Correct Planting – Proper depth, spacing, and backfill technique determine whether plants thrive or struggle
  • Finishing Details – Mulch, edging, cleanup, and final grading done with attention to quality
  • Aftercare – We water plantings appropriately and monitor for issues in the weeks after installation

Best Planting Timeline

Spring (March-May)

Best time for planting. Moderate temperatures and moisture support establishment.

Fall (September-November)

Second best time. Cool temperatures and dormancy let plants focus on root establishment.

Summer & Winter

Possible but less ideal. Summer heat stresses new plantings. Winter dormancy works for bare-root stock but limits options.

Investment & Return

Landscaping is one of the best investments you can make in your property. Quality landscaping delivers:

  • Increases curb appeal immediately
  • Can add 5-10% to property value
  • Provides natural cooling and energy efficiency
  • Creates outdoor living space
  • Improves daily quality of life

Our Guarantee

We don’t design something and disappear. We install work professionally, stand behind plant health, provide aftercare recommendations, and are available for adjustments if something isn’t working as planned. Your satisfaction matters. We do it right.
